October 13, 2021
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather Kenneth Paul Smith (Ken). Ken passed peacefully with family by his side on October 13, 2021.
Ken is predeceased by his wife Lynn (2010). Ken will be lovingly remembered by his 5 children; Paul (Nicole), Danielle (Darren), Marianne (Jason), Colleen (Rob), David (Jennifer) and his 6 grandchildren; Vanessa, Cameron, Jonah, Hannah, Nathaniel, Ethan, and Sharon Braiden, his children's mother.
Ken was the youngest of 10 children to the late Hilda and Victor (VR) Smith. He is predeceased by his sister Eileen and brothers, Tod, Bill, Jack, Donnie, and Doug. Ken will always be in the thoughts of his sister Joan and brothers Harry, Bert and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was born in Guelph, Ontario, growing up in the nearby village of Erin. Throughout his life he was active in sports most notably; hockey, golf and playing pool. Ken started playing hockey on ponds in Erin when he was a young boy and went on to coach later in his hockey career. Ken certainly passed on his love of sports to his children, encouraging both his sons and daughters to try various sports and extracurricular activities.
Ken was a natural leader in all areas of his life, and this resulted in a very interesting and successful career. His career began at Northern Electric in Bramalea, Ontario quickly moving his way up into management positions. Ken and his family settled for many years in Pickering, Ontario. At AEG Bailey Ken led the Manufacturing Team. A surprising move to British Columbia came later in Ken's career to work for Dynapro Systems Inc. (later 3M) as VP of Manufacturing.
Upon Ken's retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, all a great source of pride. He also enjoyed the quiet community of White Rock, new friends, playing Friday night pool and teaching pool at a local community centre.
Ken's family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring team at Chartwell Crescent Gardens for their kindness and support.
A private service and celebration of life will be held by the family.
