BUGBY, LaVerne

1918 - 2016

LaVerne passed away on Monday Dec. 19, 2016 at Morgan Creek rest home near White Rock. She was born on July 3, 1918, the daughter of Hugh & Mary Poole of Neepawa, Manitoba. The eldest of their 4 children, LaVerne outlived them all; she was made of strong stuff and when life got tough, she would always remember her father saying "where's your gumption, girl!" As a single mom, she worked hard as a hairdresser at The Bay to support her young son. During World War II, LaVerne drove an ambulance and cooked meals for the pilots at the International Pilot Training Base at the Neepawa Airport. She was predeceased by her husband, Art Bugby, whom she married in 1957. Together they shared a rich social life, golfing, lawn bowling and travelling the world. Many winters were spent at the Happy Traveller trailer park in Palm Springs.

LaVerne is survived by her 2 children and their spouses: Barry (Diane) O'Hara, Rick (Janice) Bugby, 4 grandchildren, Patrick (Lora) O'Hara; Robert (Susan) O'Hara; Patrick Bugbyand Mathew Bugby; 2 great grandchildren Marin and Terena O'Hara; niece Paulette Jobin and her daughter Sarah Poole; nephews Larry, Gary, Norman and Raymond Poole. Nephew Wil Beaugard. Special recognition goes to niece Paulette Jobin who provided so much care and support through LaVerne's many years in White Rock and special thanks to the caregivers at Morgan Place who helped her through her last days.

A Celebration of life will take place in White Rock this spring.
