June 26, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Major Rayfield Arthur Boutcher (Surrey, BC) was Promoted to Glory, on Friday, June 26, 2020. He was 82. Ray will be lovingly remembered and honoured by his wife of 62 years, Gloria, and their children, Major Glenda (Ian) McKenzie, Beverley (Robert) Foreman, Major Darlene (Andrew) Morgan, and Dr. Paul (Lynne) Boutcher. Poppy will be missed by his nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Ray was predeceased by his parents Brigadiers Arthur and Mabel Boutcher.
Ray was born in St. John’s, NL, and as a child of Salvation Army officer parents, grew up in several towns throughout Newfoundland. He met and married Gloria (Osmond) in St. John’s, before moving to Toronto. Together with their children, they entered The Salvation Army College for Officer Training, and were commissioned as officers in 1971. As a couple, they served in BC, AB, MB, ON and NL, with Ray’s ministry mainly in Hospital Administration and Long-Term Care. They retired from their final appointment at Victoria Sunset Lodge in October 2002 to settle in the White Rock area.
Ray will be remembered for his devotion to his Lord, a love for music, nature and world travel, (especially to visit family and friends), his quick wit and humour, and years of happy berry-picking and baking. Ray was a long time Rotarian, and was honoured to be recognized with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
A memorial service for Ray will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, for those who so desire, a donation may be made in Ray’s memory to The Salvation Army White Rock Church and Community Ministries.
