APPLETON

Margaret Rankin (nee Lamont)

December 28th, 1913 - June 25th, 2016

Our dear mother and grandmother passed away in Peace Arch Hospital at the age of 102. She was born in Calgary, the youngest in a family of Scottish pioneers. Mom's father David Lamont served in WWI Canadian Army, and passed away in 1919.

Mom, mother Mary, and brothers Matthew, Gordon and Bert journeyed on to the Vancouver area, where Mom spent the rest of her life. She met and married our father Cecil Appleton. They raised their family, enjoyed travels and, after retirement, made the family summer home on Thetis Island their permanent home for 11 years, later settling in S. Surrey.

Mom is predeceased by her parents, brothers, and husband, Cecil. She is survived by sons Lorne (Margaret), Gordon, daughter Rosemary and grandchildren Matthew and Jeremy, also cousin Aileen, nieces & nephews. Mom was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a voracious reader and a lifelong learner who kept her interest in news and world affairs. She cared deeply for her family and enjoyed get-togethers around the dining room table.

Thank-you to all care-givers, especially Jeannine and Virginia,

Dr. Glenn Anderson and the staff of Peace Arch Hosp. ACE Unit.

Cremation at her request. Graveside service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers consider donating to SPCA or a favourite charity.
