August 21, 1951 - July 24, 2024
After a full and rich life, Mark died on the 24th of July at age 72 in his home in Ocean Park surrounded by his children (Simon, Luke, and Tessa), mother (Shirley) and dog (Laska).
He is predeceased by his father (Wayne).
Mark was born in Toronto and raised with his brother (Jeff) in Kitchener, Waterloo. He studied architecture at the University of Waterloo. As an influential architect, his impact on the community is present in the many buildings he and his firm (Ankenman Associates Architects Inc) designed that shape the lower mainland.
His interest in aviation led him to restore a maule rocket, obtain a pilot's license, and fly his family all over British Columbia. He was an avid hunter and took his dog Laska on hunting trips throughout Canada. His most beloved hobby, fishing, he enjoyed throughout his life and took full advantage of while building and spending time at his cabin on an island outside of Bamfield.
Mark's true passions were his children and grandson (Leo). Loved and admired by all who knew him, his honesty, integrity, and authenticity will leave a lasting impression on those who mourn him.
A celebration of his life will take place at Kwomais Point Park on September 14th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
