It is with great sadness that the family of Martha Marie Hirtle (nee Meister) (previous married name, Sauder) announces her passing Friday, January 12th, 2018. Our mother lived a full life.

Born in Borden, Sask. in 1931, the 6th of 10 children. Predeceased by both of her husbands: Wilf Sauder (d. 1969) and Douglas Hirtle (d. 1998).

Martha was matriarch to a large, complex, blended family arising from her two marriages. She is survived by 8 children: Bob Hirtle, Rick Sauder (Marg), Ernie Sauder (Kathy), Ruth Sauder, Chris Sauder (Christine), Lynne Crouch, Wilf Sauder Jr. (Marlene), and Kurt Sauder (Claudia), 11 grandchildren, as well as 6 (soon to be 7) great grandchildren.

Martha also leaves behind sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, and beloved friends too numerous to name.

She was raised in Radisson Saskatchewan, moved to Burnaby, B.C. in 1952, during her first marriage, before settling in White Rock, B.C., in 1967. She operated the Buena Vista Motel & Trailer Park for over twenty years.

During her life, she was active in church (Grace Lutheran & Mount Olive Lutheran) and with local business groups such as the Chamber of Commerce. She loved baking, gardening, pets, and visiting with friends and strangers.

Celebration of Life to be held Friday, Feb. 23rd, at 1 P.M. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, in White Rock.
