Born September 12, 1936 in Surrey, B.C. (Semiahmoo) where she spent the better part of her life. She passed away suddenly on April 10, 2003 at Royal Columbian Hospital due to medical complications. Her father Bernard Charles Sr., her mother Mamie Charles, sisters Clara (Campbell) and Bernice (Cook) and brothers David and Richard predeceased her. Sisters and brothers who survive Mary: Irene (Mapaono), Virginia, Mabel, Margaret (Thomas), Eleanor (Chilstrom), Barbara (Calder) and brothers Willard Joseph, Bernard Robert and James. Several nieces, nephews and their children and children's children survive Mary (far too numerous to mention) but who hold her in high esteem because she devoted much time to caring for and advising all of them. The family and friends gathered at Victory Memorial Chapel, 14831 - 28 Ave. Surrey for prayers between the hours of 7-9 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2003 and gathered for a funeral service at Victory Memorial on Tuesday April 15, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Semiahmoo Cemetery following the service. Family and friends joined for an honor feast after interment.

Flowers are not discouraged but Mary would also look favorably on a donation in her name to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mary is free from pain and agony and goes home in peace with the Creator leaving her hope that family and friends shall continue in the spirit of harmony that is a large part of her lasting memory.
