August 12, 1947 - May 23, 2020
We are saddened to announce the passing of Michael after several years of illness. He left this earth peacefully May 23, 2020 after 3 months of care at Peace Arch Hospital.
He will be sorely missed by his mother Edna, sister Dr. Carolyn Allan, and many cousins and friends in England, New Zealand, Australia and France. He was predeceased by his father Andrew(Andy)in 2009.
He was very proud to be the only one in the family to be born in Canada at St.Michael's Hospital in Lethbridge Alberta.
Michael grew up in the Hospitality Business starting at age 9 with his parent's Restaurant "The Chestnuts" in Langley. He attended school in Langley from Grade 3 (Langley Central) to Grade 13(LSS). Then he attended Trinity Western College before returning to help his parents with the Restaurant.
In 1979, his parents retired and Michael had various business ventures but mainly he travelled. He spent one year in UK taking various opportunities to prepare himself for a Pub business—but found that the industry was in dire straits due to changes in licensing laws. He opted to return to Canada when in 1987 he purchased a small restaurant in Crescent Beach Surrey and called it "The Chestnuts by the Sea. He continued there in business until 2005 when he sold the premises to John and Francina Kavanagh who renamed the premises "The Sea Horse Grill."
There will be a gathering at a future date.
Thank you to all the staff at PAH with special thanks to Dr. Smith for her excellent care and communication to the family.
The family would appreciate donations to the Diabetic Society or the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers.
