LOCKE, Muriel

February 13, 1914 – May 12, 2009. With sadness, we wish to inform her many friends, that our darling mother Muriel Locke peacefully, and in the company of her family, closed this chapter and moved on to the next. She lived 95 years plus; what a great journey! Muriel began her life in the Riverdale area of Edmonton, Alberta, the youngest of six children born to Sarah and Shadrack Whitton. She married Richard Alexander Locke in 1946; they lived for many years in Calgary, one year in Wales, UK, before moving to Kelowna and eventually to Surrey. Muriel was predeceased by her husband in 1992, son-in-law, Raymond Sato in 2008, and is survived by her daughters, Sarajane Sato and Alix Navarrete (Maximo). She dearly loved her grandson Koji Sato, and that love was returned by Koji, his wife Sheryl and her two great grandsons Kazuo and Caden. She formed a special bond with her devoted young friend Andrea. We were humbled by her courage and bravery in the final months of her life. We owe great gratitude to Dr. Samoil and the loving caregivers at Laurel Place. In her own words, ''a misplaced Polynesian'', Muriel loved Hawaii and spent many wonderful holidays there. We feel that she is there now, wearing a white ginger lei and dancing with our Dad. We do not say goodbye, rather Aloha nui Ku’u Ipo. If you knew her and loved her, please join us Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4, May 24 at Beecher Place in Crescent Beach.
