Ray Storey

March 13, 2004

Ray of White Rock, formerly of Saskatoon, passed away peacefully March 13, 2004 with his wife Moyra at his side.

Ray was born to Jim and Nellie Storey in 1918 at Moose Range, Saskatchewan. His formative years were spent in Arborfield where he completed an education that led to his role as a radar mechanic in England during the Second world War.

While in England he fell in love with Moyra Burrell, who became his war bride and partner for 59 years. They returned to Saskatchewan, relocating to Melfort where he worked for Beaver Lumber. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to build and operate Northeast Saskatchewan's first bowling alley as well as run food concession at the lake and the Melfort Fair.

Ray moved to Saskatoon where he saw an opportunity to create a new industry in northern Saskatchewan, the supply and service of overhead garage doors. June 1, 1961 the Overhead Door Company of Saskatoon was born. Expansion throughout Western Canada led him to relocate in 1976 to start the Overhead Door Company of Vancouver.

Retirement in 1980 was only a change in job description. Ray's lifelong membership in the Kiwanis club gave him the opportunity to coninue to organize new clubs and recruit new members. He was elected District Lieutenant-Governor. As recently as four months ago, Ray once again led all members in Crhistmas cake sales, just doing what he loved to do.

He always gave back more tnan he received.

Ray will be forever missed by his loving wife Moyra, daughters Carol Lopez of Vancouver, Dee Lowe (Ervin) of Saskatoon, sons John Storey (Dianne) of Edmonton and Brian Storey (Judy) of Saskatoon, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He is survived by his sister Irene Beck (Dres) of Ottawa, numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

The memorial service was held at the First United Church 15385 Semiahmoo Avenue, White Rock, B.C. on Thursday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m.
