Forever in Our Hearts

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Raymond "Ray" Samuel Billing, on the morning of October 1, 2024.

Ray was born in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, the second youngest of six children. He was predeceased by his parents and all five of his siblings, making him the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is also predeceased by his loving wife, Jean (2008), and daughter, Lynne (2009). Ray is survived by his children, Sandy (Theresa) and Susan (Terry); grandchildren, Justin, Krista (Jorge), Kevin (Raegan), Jesse, and Willow; and six cherished great-grandchildren.

Ray moved to Prince Rupert in the early 1950s, beginning his career with City Telephone as a lineman. In the 1960s, he transitioned into the hospitality industry, becoming a shareholder in the Belmont Hotel. Over time, Ray took full ownership and proudly brought his family into the business, turning it into a family legacy.

A man of warmth and integrity, Ray built lifelong friendships through his work and his passion for sports. He was a dedicated member of the Prince Rupert Curling Club, Prince Rupert Golf Club, White Rock Curling Club, and Semiahmoo Golf Club. His love for curling and golf took him on many travels, both as a participant and spectator. In his later years, Ray found great joy in spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter.

Ray's memory will forever be cherished by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
