It is with great sadness that we announce that Bob Shumka passed away at the age of 79 in White Rock, BC. A true fighter finally rests.
Born and raised in the Okanagan, Bob graduated from high school in Lumby and earned his Bachelor of Commerce from UBC in 1964. In college, he met his partner for life - Rosemary, to whom he was married for 58 years.
Bob was raised and predeceased by loving parents who instilled in him a profound faith, quick wit, incredible work ethic and drive to help others. He was active for many years in his Church, Rotary, and Probus - and always looked for ways to contribute to his community. He was a past president of the White Rock Rotary Club and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship.
Bob's long standing career as an executive primarily in the packaged goods industry included stops throughout BC, Ontario & Alberta with lifelong friends made in each location.
Bob will be remembered fondly for his optimism, his resilience, his sense of humour and his ability to connect with people. While his first love was Rosemary and his family, his second love was golf & he spent countless hours on the course with many friends over the years - most recently as a proud member of the WROFGG.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife Rosemary, his 3 children James (Susan), Dave (Josephine) and Beth, his brother Don (Jane), and his grandchildren Trevor, Adam, Casimira, and Antonia.
The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Dr. Nolte, his long-time GP, and the staff of the Royal Columbian Hospital for their care. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Stanley Galvon on February 20, 2021 in the Chapel at The Gardens of Gethsemani.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Covenant House or towards the Hospice at the PAH Foundation Lodge.
