With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of long time Crescent Beach resident, husband, father and grandfather Robert E. Hicks on February 20, 2019.
Bob, or "Sweet old Bob" (SOB) as he was somewhat ironically known to friends was born in Winnipeg, MB in 1935 and made his way West as a child, settling first in North Burnaby, later New Westminster, and eventually Crescent Beach. A man of many talents and intense creativity, Bob led a diverse life. As a young man, he played drums in jazz ensembles. As a club manager in various Vancouver locales, he was the consummate host, culminating in his employ as banquet manager for the Royal Towers Hotel in it's glory days. In between, he worked as a crewman on tug boats hauling log booms across the Pacific, resided for a time in Alaska, and eventually settled down to raise a family, working for the remainder of his working years for CP Air as a truck driver. Throughout, Dad was always creating. He produced architectural scale models for a number of projects across B.C., and could always be found in his workshop full of works in progress.
He is predeceased by his wife of 42 years Dianne, his parents Sidney and Josephine, and his sister Marilyn. He is survived by his son David (Mary and Noah) and daughter Susan (Wojtek and Ryan). There was no service at Bob's request.
