ROBERT "NEIL" PALMER. OCTOBER 23, 1920 - JUNE 11, 2012. Neil was born on October 23, 1920 in Selkirk, Manitoba. Neil passed away at 91 on June 11, 2012 at Peace Arch Hospital, in his own home town of White Rock, BC, after a tough battle with Alzheimer's disease and other complications. He fought hard to live. Neil is survived by his devoted, loving wife and friend Freda. He is also survived by his children Glen (Julie), Robyn (Duncan), Alison (Jim) and his stepdaughter Robin. He is survived by 9 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren. Neil was predeceased by his parents Margaret & John Palmer, his first wife Sheila, his brothers Stuart (Joyce), Glen (Dorothy), his sister Carol (Herb), and nieces Ellen and Marlene. Neil served in the RCAF from 1941-1945 as an Armourer with 135 Squadron. Neil was a Corporal and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. He served in several locations in Canada and Alaska. Neil's civilian job was working in the Accounting Dept. at Shell Oil Canada for 38 years. He was also a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 25 years. Neil was the Treasurer for the B.C. Pipers' Association for many years. He volunteered as a driver for the BC Cancer Agency for over 10 years. Neil enjoyed travelling with his loving wife at his side, to many countries; took many cruises, often to the beaches of Mexico, for over 25 years. He also travelled with Freda to visit family & friends in Canada and the U.S. by car. Neil was a very sincere true friend and a gentleman. Everyone liked him the minute they met him. Neil was always ready and willing to help a friend or a neighbour, and was a great handyman. He also had a special love for animals. He enjoyed 11 years of walking our beloved Golden Retriever, Cindy, to the beach. Even in his last days he would ask about our Persian cats. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Glen Anderson, Dr. Lowe, and all the nurses at the Peace Arch Hospital for their kindness and support. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Peace Portal Alliance Church, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at 15128 - 27 B Ave, Surrey, BC V4P 1P2.
