Rosalie Johnson passed peacefully in hospice on July 21, 2024 after her second battle with breast cancer. Her husband of 42 years, Daniel "Poppa Dan" Johnson died 11 days later of a broken heart and joined his love in the afterlife.
Rose was born in Germany and emigrated to Canada with her family in 1956, settling in Vernon, BC. After moving to White Rock, Rose started her 32 year career with Immigration & Citizenship as one of the first female Immigration officers to be hired in 1972.
Daniel was born in Hollandale, MS and grew up in MS and Gary, IN before moving to Tacoma, WA as a teenager. Dan spent most of his life as a professional driver, either behind the wheel of a big rig or bus. Working for Greyhound, he often had charters between WA and BC.
Rose and Dan met at the border and knew each other professionally for 20 years. They started dating in 1982 and married shortly after.
They both found much joy in their children and grandchildren and leave behind Sonja Smith (Randy, Avery and Tony), Deborah Johnson (Evan & Leon), Darryl Johnson (Cathy Johnson, Tevin, Jada & Tyrese Daniel), Lindsie Tomlinson (Curtis Foreman, Dante & Enzo), Sara Reyes, (JJ, Maximo Daniel, Rosalina & Lina) and Shelley Tomlinson.
A joint memorial service will be held on August 14, 2024 at 1:00pm at Emmanuel Evangelical Covenant Church at 17029 16th Avenue, Surrey, BC.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Breast Cancer Canada
