April 18, 1928 - July 23, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Samuel Charles Cooles at Peace Arch Hospital on July 23rd, 2020. Much loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband, Roy will be missed! Roy was born on April 18th, 1928 in Poole, Dorset, England.
Upon completion of public school, Roy apprenticed as a Millwright and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Hurn Airport. In 1956, he immigrated to Canada sailing into Montreal. His wife Beryl and daughters Cheryl and Janet followed, sailing to Canada into Pier 21 in Halifax.
Roy and his young family made their way to British Columbia where they resided in Kemano, Kitimat and Richmond and in later years, Roy moved to South Surrey. Roy leaves behind his children: Cheryl (Dave), Janet (Jim), Susan (Ken), Pamela (Stacey), Brian (Nancy), and his many grand-children and great grand-children, and Jane Ingram, his partner for the past 13 years.
Roy loved his English garden, where he enjoyed tinkering for hours, as well as dancing, travelling and dropping in to see friends for coffee at Tim Hortons or lunch at Ricki's.
An inurnment and celebration of life for Roy will take place for immediate family at Oceanview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
