ROY MORLEY WHITAKER

30 July, 1911 - 1 December, 2006

Loving husband of Mary, father to Barbara (Carman) Smith of Barriere and Rick (Annette) of Birch Bay, Washington; grandfather of Shannon (Warren) Raitt of Summerland, Bob (Sharon) Smith of White Rock, and Greg (Maureen) Smith of Barriere; great-grandfather of Daniel and Maria Raitt, Paul, Michael and Rachel Smith and Sara and Halle Smith; uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was pre-deceased by his sister Hazel and brothers Jim and Hank.

Roy was a gentle, caring man who touched all our lives with his kindness and love. Born and raised in Vancouver, he married Mary Van Snellenberg in 1940. Soon after starting their family the young couple moved to West Vancouver where their lives revolved around curling, Lions Club, and supporting Barb and Rick in music endeavors, guides, scouts and memorable summer weekends at the beach. After retirement from a career with Ocean Cement in 1976, Roy and Mary moved to White Rock to enjoy the winter curling, and summers, swimming, walking the promenade and lawn bowling. Roy was always first to pitch in with volunteer work for the Lions, curling and lawn bowling clubs.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831-28th Ave, South Surrey, Friday, December 8 at 2:00 PM.
