Jul 22, 1955 - Mar 17, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce that on March 17th, 2018, Ruth Barnes, beloved Granny, mom, sister, daughter and friend, reached the end of her earthly life at the age of 62.

Ruth was born on July 22nd, 1955 in Chemainus, BC and spent her early years living all over Northern BC where her father worked as an electrical inspector. In 1963, the family settled in Prince George where Ruth loved spending time at Ness Lake Bible Camp. As a child, she was known for babysitting the whole neighbourhood: people would send their children up the street and she would organize games and activities for everyone, including her two younger brothers.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends, toboganning, art and sewing her own clothes. At the age of twelve, she was baptized at Fort George Baptist Church.

Ruth served as the primary caregiver to her four children during her married life. During the years of building the family businesses, Ruth made beautiful and welcoming homes for the family in Killam and Camrose, Alberta, as well as Prince George, Surrey and White Rock, BC. Her children will always remember her school-day refrain as they headed out the door: "Make a friend, get an A!"

She was known for sewing matching clothing and fantastic costumes for her own children - and later, for her gifts of beautiful matching clothes for her grandkids as well. She was known for her generous and hospitable nature; her life was about family and she loved to host and to celebrate everyone else's families, both at her home in White Rock and at her cabin in Kelowna.

She was active for many years at Peace Portal Alliance Church, visiting and supporting Marie Ens' Place of Refuge in Cambodia, and supporting Women with Cancer Connecting in South Surrey.

Predeceased by her mother, Mary Wiebe, Ruth is mourned by her father, Ed Wiebe; her brothers, Dan and Rob Wiebe, and their families; her former husband, Greg Barnes; her children, Dayna (Stan) Dueck, Brian (Alice) Barnes, Ashley (Jeremy) Marks, and Aaron (Antonia) Barnes; and her nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ruth's memory at https://deltahospice.org/dhs-donation-form/.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 25th, 2018 at the Four Seasons in Vancouver.
