It is with sadness we announce the passing of Sheila Symington (nee Dunkinson) on April 24, 2022 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Tommy, parents Alec and Marjorie, brother Ken, and sister Patricia. Sheila is survived by her brother Edmund (Connie), son Robert (Jenny), daughters Sherri (Kim), Kathy, & grandchildren Matthew, Cam, Jeff, Taylor, Daniel, Jody (Kevin) Derek (Amber) & her great grandchildren.
Sheila was a talented artist who for decades was very involved in the White Rock and South Surrey art community. She had a brilliant creative mind and was a taskmaster who knew how to get things done. No job seemed to be beyond her ability. In 1993 Sheila co-founded the volunteer international White Rock Summer School of the Arts which ran for 15 years. Thanks to Sheila and many volunteers within the community, they were able to present the City of Surrey with a $250,000 cheque towards building the community art centre. Although her memory and health were slipping in past years, she still loved to make people laugh with her witty (often cheeky) quips. We will always remember the sound of her distinctive laughter.
Join us at the Turnbull Gallery in the South Surrey Recreation and Art Centre, 14601 20 Ave., Surrey BC on Saturday, June 18th 1:00-4:00 pm for an Opening Celebration of Sheila's Art exhibition.
