June 29, 1925 - February 3, 2020
Our dear friend Shirley passed away peacefully at Whitecliff Retirement Residence after a long and happy life. Born in Weyburn Saskatchewan - the youngest of 7 children - Shirley loved to talk about her life on the prairies. During the war years she spent time in Washington D.C. where she enjoyed being part of a group of Canadian secretaries who were doing their work in an exciting environment - especially after work had finished - the dances were fun !!!
Shirley married Sid in 1945 and they moved to Don Mills Ontario where their son Ken was born. Sid and Shirley retired to White Rock in 1989 and spent many happy years enjoying the beautiful West Coast - and many cruises including one to Australia and New Zealand where they had relatives. Shirley decided in 1990 that she needed to make new friends and became the first "Sunday Receptionist" at Realty World White Rock - which at that time was on 1515 Johnson Road. Always looking smart and glamorous - and a great typist - Shirley fit the bill perfectly and made friends along the way - with her friendly smile and welcoming attitude. After Sid's passing in 2010 Shirley could be seen regularly out walking - especially around Southmere Park - one of her favourite spots - where she would meet many of her neighbours.
Shirley moved to Whitecliff in 2014 where she made friends easily and enjoyed the lifestyle this elegant residence offered her - we would like to thank the wonderful staff who were so kind to her - especially in the past year when her mobility became difficult - we could not have asked for better care.
Shirley will be fondly remembered by her son and family in France and her special friends who miss her dearly - especially Barb, Linda, Carole and Matilda.
