Stefania 'Stella' Syrnyk

January 20, 1928 - September 13, 2022
Stella passed away in her sleep at Evergreen Baptist Care Home, White Rock, BC.
Stella was predeceased by her two brothers, Leo and Alexander years ago and in 2012 by her devoted husband of 62 years, Fred.
She is survived and will be missed by her daughters and sons; Evelyn and Allen of White Rock, BC, Teresa and Paul of Vancouver, BC, Murray and Margaret of Summerland, BC, and Peter and Barbara of Houston, Texas.
Stella will also be missed by her devoted grandchildren and their young families: Matt, Sophie and great grand-children Zachary, Mackenna, and Fraser; Daniel; Michael, Morgan and great grand-children Nora and Reed; Tavis; Jennifer; Alexandra and Harsh; Sonia, Paul and great grandsons Telesfor and Jules; and Jonathan, Jackie and great grand-children Emily and Benjamin.
Stella is also survived by sister-in-law, Mary Syrnyk and sister-in-law and dear friend Jean Korby, both of Kelowna, BC.
Stella was born in Sarnia, Poland and emigrated to Canada with her mother Katharine Sykanda and younger brother Leo in 1933 to join her father Stefan Sykanda who had preceded them to Canada. She spent her early life in Hines Creek, Alberta where her family homesteaded and farmed, and where she met and later married her husband Fred in 1949.
They moved to Dawson Creek, BC with their young family and together established themselves in the Dawson Creek community.
Stella devoted herself to raising her children and caring for her family, firstly in Dawson Creek and later when they moved to White Rock.
Like many women of her generation, she was an avid homemaker and an excellent cook and baker. Stella was very proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed news of the developments of the great grandchildren.
Her friends and neighbours, and attendance at her church were very important to her. The family would like to thank all her friends, neighbours and the care-givers for their kindness and support as she grew older.
A mass will be held for her at Holy Cross Ukrainian Church in Surrey BC on Thursday, September 22 at 12:30 pm.
