Stewart A. SCHON

SCHON: Stewart A., age 54. Beloved husband of Katherine Town, devoted father of Kim and Tia, eldest son of Herb and Carol Schon, of Winnipeg. Stewart's accomplishments were many; he taught in Surrey, was on the executive of the Surrey Teachers Association and the BC Exchange Teachers Assn. A life-long member of the Royal Life Saving Society, he taught, coached, tested and encouraged generations of lifeguards and had recently qualified as an International Judge. He was the backbone of the Crescent Beach Lifeguard Corp. Stewart played many roles in Scouting, ranging from troop leader to Jamboree participant. In his home community he served on the Crescent Beach Property Owner's Assn., was a member of several choirs, active in the Association of Neighborhood Houses, and other groups. His focus was always on family and friends, and his was the first hand stretched out to those who needed help. He died at home, surrounded by the love of family and friends. The Stewart Schon Memorial Scholarship will mark the memory of a warm and generous man, who gave so much to all whose lives he touched. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to the Surrey School Board Office. Services will be held at 4pm Wed. April 5, 2006 at the Peace Portal Alliance Church in South Surrey.
