October 18, 1948 - January 16, 2025
We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of Susan Potzold on January 16, 2025, in White Rock, BC. Born on October 18, 1948, in Lac La Biche, Alberta, Susan's life was full love, passion, and community service.
Susan's legacy lives on through her soulmate of 52 years, Kris; her loving children Christie (Sean) and Allan (Myanne); and her beloved grandchildren Aurora, Nena, Nova, Lila, Veya. She is also survived by siblings Joyce, Gary, Randy, Ted, Corinne. Susan was predeceased by her loving sister Sonja, brother Raymond, parents Rose and George.
Proud of her Ukrainian heritage, Susan's roots ran deep in the Alberta soil, where her pioneering grandparents homesteaded in Royal Park and Two Hills. At 17, she moved to White Rock, where her family owned the historic Tudor Inn. After graduating from Semiahmoo High School and earning a B.Ed. from UBC, she began a fulfilling 35+-year career in education. Her work as a teacher and BC Teachers Federation representative reflected her passion for learning, fairness, and advocacy.
In 1971, Susan met Kris at the Westin Bayshore Ballroom in Vancouver—sparking a lifelong love story. Together they raised a family, returning to White Rock in 1990 to fulfill Susan's living in her beloved City by the Sea. She was an active member of the community championing numerous environmental causes. A master gardener certified by VanDusen Gardens; she transformed her home into an award-winning oasis bringing joy to many.
In her golden years, Susan full-heartedly embraced her most treasured role as grandmother creating magical moments: making perfume from rose-pedals, knitting, storytelling, and sharing family recipes like Borscht.
Susan's vibrant spirit will remind us of her nurturing soul and enduring presence. Honoring her wishes, a private family celebration will take place in a beautiful seaside garden, where the beauty of nature will remind us of her nurturing and enduring presence.
The family invites kindness and caring to continue Susan's legacy of making the world a brighter and more just place.
