With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Stech (nee Campbell) on May 15, 2019. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter and son after a fierce battle with Alzheimer’s and long battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Susan is survived by daughter Kathryn (Mike), son John (Megan), beloved grandchildren Isabelle, Karissa, Everett & Tyler, sister Lorraine, sister Carol,
and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members. She was predeceased by sisters Anne, Athalie, brother John, and her parents Thelma and Larry.
Susan was born in Vancouver, BC July 20, 1946. She graduated from Magee High School in Vancouver and went on to study music at UBC.
Before completing her degree, she took an opportunity with Air Canada during aviation’s glory years. She moved toWhite Rock, BC in 1972 where she spent the rest of her life. She gave the flying years and her 1969 Ford Mustang up to have kids. At the young age of 35 she started her battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She started a thriving piano teaching business out of her home while her kids were young and ran it until the late 1990s.
After that she taught friends and neighbours for fun. Susan loved people. Everyone who knew her will tell you what a kind, loving, strong, positive, inspiring woman she was, always finding the good in people and looking on the bright side of life. She was such a good listener and had so much wisdom to share. Her front door was always open for coffee and tea and she always had baked goods waiting for visitors.
Over the years, Susan volunteered many hours to the Red Cross, Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary and Star of the Sea Church Library.
A celebration of life will be held June 15, 2019 2-4pm at Ocean Park Hall, 1577 128th Street, Surrey, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
