September 1, 2018
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the Laturnus family announces the passing of Sylvester Laturnus on September 1, 2018. His passing was very sudden and very unexpected, He was 91 years old. "Sid" was born in Val Marie in Saskatchewan in 1927 and was one of 13 children born to Mary and Joseph Laturnus.

He was sent to London England during WW11 where he met and married the love of his life, Doris, who he brought back to Canada as his war bride. They remained married for 71 years and had four children, Ted, Debbie, Ken and Neil. They also had 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Sid was predeceased by his first grandchild - Heather Cunningham - in 2008.

Sid worked as a TV repairman when he was a young father. Years later, Sid attended the University of British Columbia and became a teacher first in Vancouver and later in South Surrey. Sid lived in the South Surrey area for over 50 years where he was very active in the community. He belonged to the Lion's Club and helped to build and install the original fitness circuit at Centennial Park. He was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus. He sold poppies every November until he was well into his late 80's. Sid took Doris dancing every Friday night to the local legion and was at that very place on the day of his passing.

Thank you so much to all of the fabulous staff at Peace Arch Hospital and to the paramedics who transported him to the hospital.

Sid made it to heaven where he is now dancing with his granddaughter, Heather, and with the rest of the angels.
