April 17, 1939 - May 18, 2022
Terence ("Terry") Keith Hilborn of White Rock, BC, died on May 18, 2022, in the home that he shared with his wife Charlotte (Carol). Terry was born in Quesnel, BC, on April 17, 1939, to Gordon and Edna Hilborn, and had four older siblings - Edna Patricia Sexsmith, Gordon St. Laurent Hilborn, Brian L'Estrange Hilborn, and Leonard Edmond Hilborn.
After graduating high school, Terry moved from Quesnel to Vancouver, where he married his first wife Elsie, and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in biochemistry.
Originally intending to go into journalism, his studies led him to a career in pharmaceuticals where he was involved in the development of revolutionary medicines. The family moved to Winnipeg, and then Montreal, where Terry learned French, Asian cuisine, and became a competitive cross-country skier.
Terry would later move on from pharmaceuticals to trucking and then web design - he loved an open road as much as he loved science.
Terry was an avid outdoorsman, never missing an opportunity to go camping and canoeing, a passion he passed on to his children. Never one to sit still, he cycled across Europe, kayaked in Haida Gwaii, and motorcycled all over North America.
When he retired, Terry moved back to BC, where he met Carol, on the top of a mountain, of course.
Terry is predeceased by his mother and father, and brothers Gordon and Leonard.
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Monica Maria Hilborn and Lydia Edna Gemmell (Daniel), and sons Basil Lundy Hilborn (now Milo Russell Brooks (Andrea)) and Guy Allan Bowen (Jenny), and his many grandchildren.
Terry's ashes will be buried at Valleyview in Surrey, BC. His family and friends will dearly miss his sharp wit, insight, and warrior spirit.
