Tom Loftus

November 21, 2005

February 16, 1917 - November 21, 2005

Tom was a gentle man who considered others before himself.

He led with his quiet strength and enriched all of our lives.

He will be forever missed by his sister Marie Miles and family in Edmonton, his daughter Trudy (Gary), his daughter-in-law Carol and the grandchildren: Stacy, Tom, Todd, Camille, Emma and jade.

Tom was born in Innisfree, Alberta where he grew up riding horses.

He married Ruby in 1939, just months before he joined the army.

He returned in 1941 to retrain as a fighter pilot in Summerside, P.E.I.

Tom survived the war and he and Ruby returned to the Innisfree Farm in 1946.

They were blessed with Ron in 1947 and their treasured Trudy was born in 1949.

Tom and Ruby eventually settled in Vancouver in the early 1950's.

He worked for the Burnaby School Board and upon retirement, began his and Ruby's snowbirding years in Mesa, Arizona.

They loved their many cruises and gambling trips with their friends.

They moved to White Rock in the mid-'80's and enjoyed their walks by the sea, their many friends and hours of cards.

Tom was predeceased in 1999 by Ruby, his wife of 60 years and in 2002 by his son Ron, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident by a young speeding driver.

Tom never recovered from this loss.

In his last few years, Tom spent precious time with his friend Jeanne Jurgens.

Our family wants to thank Jeanne for the support and love that made Tom's remaining years happy.

We would also like to thank the home care team who made it possible for him to stay at home for his final months.

In the end, Trudy cared for her dad and was his strongest advocate.

Trudy, you are our hero!

Dad, we will miss your sparkling blue eyes and you didn't do too bad for a young feller!
