December 24, 2006

PURKIS, Violet Agnes (Nan).

September 1, 1925 - December 24, 2006.

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of Nan who left peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital on Christmas Eve with her four children by her side.

Survived by David, Jeff (Carol), Mary Kay, Margo (Tom), and grandchildren Adam, Cameron and Katharina. Predeceased by son-in-law Mike.

Nan was an immensely independent woman who brightened the lives of the many she touched. Nan will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her great intellect, humour, and unique personality. She was a lifelong caregiver, volunteer, and active participant in her community. Her greatest loves were her family, her home and garden, and hobbies which included reading, crosswords, cooking, bridge, real estate and investing.

The family wants to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Evelyn Shukin and caring staff at Peace Arch Hospital for their compassion and respect during her hospital stay.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hazelmere Golf Course, 18150 8th Ave, Surrey on Wednesday January 10th, 2007 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Developmental Disabilities Association (#100-3851 Shell Road, Richmond V6X 2W2) or Joy Fellowship (6436 Vine St., Vancouver) as a tribute to mom's love of David and her lifelong commitment to the disabled community.

The family takes great comfort knowing Nan will be greeted and cared for by Mike.
