It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Albert Chatterley of White Rock, BC. Albert passed away on Tuesday, January 7th in Peace Arch Hospital, at the age of 82. Albert leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Mickey (nee Baranosky), his sons Dwight (wife Jo-Ann), Derek (wife Vicki), daughter Colleen Humphries (husband, the late Patrick), grandchildren, Jade, (husband Andrew), Brock, Wesley (fiancé Stephanie), Kyle, Sam, and great grandson Jaxson. Albert also leaves behind two sisters, Isabelle McDonald and Edna Hilts, a brother Wes (wife Maureen), as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends. Albert was predeceased by his parents, sisters Gladys and Margaret, and brother George.
Born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, the son of Wesley and Ella Chatterley, Albert has been a resident of White Rock BC for over 23 years. As he stated many times, his life took a change for the better when, in 1955 at the age of 18, he met his first and only love Mickey. Albert and Mickey married the following year on September 22nd, 1956. In his early years, Albert worked for Safeway in Portage La Prairie and Minnedosa before moving his family to Winnipeg. There he worked for the Manitoba Liquor Commission for 29 years until his retirement. Shortly after retiring Albert and Mickey moved to White Rock, BC.
Albert had a passion for hunting, fishing and golfing. As an avid golfer, he loved to play with his golf buddies and particularly with his grandsons. He would play no matter the weather because on golf day it was always going to be sunny. Albert also had a passion for hockey, first demonstrated as he watched his own sons play the game he loved so much, and then watching his grandsons play hockey. Albert and Mickey could be found at almost all their games, cheering them and the team on, giving encouragement and the occasional coaching tip. When not at a game Albert and Mickey loved watching their Vancouver Canucks on TV.
The family offers heartfelt thanks for the care and attention by the doctors and nurses at BC Cancer, Fraser Valley Centre, particularly Drs. Gill and Lee and his family physician, Dr Benitez-Gomez. Albert's family would also like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Peach Arch Hospital, who helped make Albert's final journey one of peace. At this time, in lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in both White Rock, BC, and Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
