Lance was born in Wells, B.C. on September 26, 1941, baptized in Barkerville, and spent much of his youth in Quesnel. He then moved with his parents to Ladner, B.C. where he graduated from high school and went on to U.B.C. Much of his career was in publishing and sales but his career was cut short when a brain tumor was discovered at the age of 50. Lance loved to travel; he loved Peru, Costa Rica and the Caribbean but had a special place in his heart for Mexico and its' beautiful people. In 1984 he spent a year living in Ajijic, Mexico with his wife Donna and children where he made many treasured friends with locals and "snowbirds" alike.

He leaves behind four step-children Jennifer Penrose (Dan) of Powell River, Justine Powell (Dave) also of Powell River, Justin Powell (Jodi) of Delta, and Jacqueline Powell of Surrey. His grandchildren Dylan, Tristan, Colton, Jaiden, Brooklyn and Madison will greatly miss their "Grumpy" and "Cappy" as they called him.
