Are you familiar with the adage “once a volunteer always a volunteer?”

Judging by the success of our Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society, we are blessed with an enormous number of community members who love to give of their time and effort.

But what if you’re new to volunteering? Maybe your children are back to school, or you’ve recently retired. Perhaps you just have too much free time on your hands and are looking for something to help fill the hours in a day.

Your hospital auxiliary is getting back into the swing of “having fun-raising funds” and is looking for volunteers in a variety of ways.

Our Superfluity Thrift Shop located at 15163 Prospect Ave. is looking for people to help sort donations, work the cash registers and assist customers within the store. Training is available to successful candidates. Contact manager@supeshop.ca

Is it possible you’d be interested in sitting on our board of directors? Check out our website at

We are now meeting and preparing for various fundraisers, which we haven’t been able to do for almost three years. New members bring new ideas, and those are always welcome.

In the words of Martin Luther King, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is “What are you doing for others?”

Our second annual “Trunk Treasures Sale and Family event” is happening this Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Good Shepherd Church parking lot at 2250 150 St., South Surrey.

We will be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Come and check out the designer and vintage items, household goods, books, jewelry, linens, crystal, games, crafts, Christmas items and so much more.

Bring the family, along with their appetites. You will find food trucks, family entertainment, face-painting, and a variety of vendors. We hope you enjoy the music of Dennis Peterson & Art Pouchet and the ST Trio, as well. This event supports patient care and comfort at Peace Arch Hospital.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to The Ocean Promenade Hotel for their sponsorship.

We look forward to hearing from you regarding a desire to make a difference in your community.

Kyle McKay is a member of the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society board of directors.
