This writer is 'dismayed' by the message Surrey South voters sent in the B.C. election.

Re: Surrey South voters betrayed their Muslim neighbours, Peace Arch News, Nov. 7.

Your column hurt my heart. I too am distressed about the South Surrey election results.

I am Caucasian and have lived my life in the Lower Mainland. I could not and would not compare my life to yours.  But I am equally dismayed that my community would reward someone like Mr. Chapman for speaking such vitriol.

I understand people wanting change, but at what cost?  Are we that divided?

Mr. Jessa, your truth and fear are real and should be heard. Please know that not all of us are like Mr. Chapman.

Respect and privilege are earned, not entitled.
