Voters in White Rock are fortunate to have several ways to learn about incumbents and new candidates in the upcoming election.

Thanks to the White Rock BIA and Chamber of Commerce, the Oct. 4 all-candidates forum is available on YouTube. It was wonderful that evening to sit comfortably at home viewing the entire event, and to be able to re-watch it now.

Thursday’s (Oct. 6) Peace Arch News has a well laid out section B Election Guide telling residents how, where, when they can vote, and introducing each mayor and council candidate.

As well, many of these individuals have websites and Facebook sites and even phone numbers inviting citizens to get to know them and their areas of concern.

As a 30-plus year resident who has worked and raised my family in our beautiful city by the sea, I am hopeful that constituents care about our community’s values in deciding this election.

Voters who like previous Mayor Baldwin and slate’s policies have three of his former councillors promising to work towards that direction.

Conversely voters may prefer Mayor Walker’s approach, or choose one of the two current councillors each leaning towards new managerial goals. There is considerable diversity in the platforms of the 16 candidates eager to serve us in one of the six council seats.

Four years from now we will look back to October 2022 and consider what we did or did not do to determine White Rock’s future.
