I recently had to give up my driving licence at 92, despite the fact that I am – in my opinion, of course – a hell of a lot better driver than many drivers I have encountered on the road in the last 75 years.
So, now, I must bus about and/or walk.
White Rock is pretty well finished for walking, because of the obstacles on the sidewalks they have erected about town, so I must find out where the various buses go.
It’s easy with a computer, because TransLink’s website does a good job of that. We don’t all have computers, and that’s another problem; however, our library has free copies of their bus timetable.
My suggestion is to ask – or demand – that advertisers in your esteemed newspaper include the bus numbers that take a rider from White Rock Centre to their location, together with which bay they leave from and how far a walk it is after the bus.
Bus service here is excellent. For example, why drive to the beach and spend half hour trying to park, when the 361 or 362 will take you there and bring you back.
The local buses do try to run on time, even if some lag a little by the end of the day. One that seems closest to its published schedule is the 351 bus to Bridgeport and the Canada Line to Vancouver. Its trips are almost as regular as the Canada Line itself, and it is great fun to be passing hundreds of cars waiting at the tunnel entrance.
