Editor:

Because this Kinder Morgan pipeline is being shoved down our throats, B.C. Premier John Horgan should demand Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau each commit 50 per cent to the cost of cleanup and 50 per cent each for environmental revitalization.

This commitment should be in perpetuity, no matter who is power. The citizens of B.C. should not have to pay a dime towards any cleanup costs.

The news about the 15 hockey players in Humboldt dying in the bus/truck crash was indeed sad.

The truck was hauling peat moss. Had it been hauling a fossil fuel there is little doubt that all would have died.

Fast forward to the debate over the pipeline. There is no short-term escape from the fact that for B.C. to exist, we need fossil fuel until an alternative is in place.

The NDP government has avoided the real alternative before us. Trucks or trains hauling fuel through our communities are the alternatives if the pipeline is not built. Pick your poison. None of the above is not an option.
