LETTERS: Bypass the government

Residential developers should be made to pay percentage of project cost to the school board, writes Jean Creighton

Editor:

Regarding the issue of the school board, and the overabundance of residential development in Surrey (School leaders want housing freeze, April 27), our financially burdened educational system is already overtaxed with the enormous influx of new students from all these new developments.

May I suggest a solution?

Any residential developer must pay one per cent of the total cost of the development to the school board, and not into the governmental general revenue, as we all know whose pocket that would end up in.

I am sure the school board has the ability to ensure the funds would be dispersed to the appropriate areas.

Another suggestion may be to require an additional quarter per cent to creating green space.

I could live with that.
