Re: Aid too risky for writer, March 16 letters

While I agree that peace is the best outcome in the current war (not “Special Military Operation”) initiated illegally by Vladimir Putin, two things can be true at the same time. Canada and our NATO allies should push for peace while, at the same time, continuing to support Ukraine.

The situation can best be summed up by the simple thought, “If Russia stops fighting, the war ends; if Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends.”

We must continue to support a democracy against the unprovoked assault by a dictator and despot. We must not embolden Mr. Putin in his goal of re-establishing the USSR by allowing him to keep the territory illegally seized in the Ukraine. We already see that he and his minions have set their sights on Moldova as their next target.

To update the famous quote by Edmund Burke, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good [people] to do nothing.”

We must continue to support the democratically elected Volodymyr Zelenskyy and all Ukrainians against the unjustified and unwarranted invasion by the Russian aggressors.
