Representing the Christian and moral people of the City of White Rock, I had a meeting with Mayor Wayne Baldwin on Sept. 5.

In this meeting, speaking for the people of White Rock, I voiced their opposition to the rainbow crosswalk and pier lighting (Colourful community, Aug. 1).

I was informed that council members are representative of the people of White Rock, yet they somehow disregarded the people’s opposition to the rainbow ceremony. Baldwin agreed that many emails, letters, etc. were received in opposition, but council disregarded the wishes of the majority and voted unanimously to go ahead with the ceremony.

I was told the rainbow crosswalk and pier lighting also represent support for the physically handicapped, mentally disabled and those that are socially unacceptable in our community. I attended the rainbow ceremony and did not see any representative for these groups. I only saw representatives for the small homosexual group.

Only those in support of the homosexual group made announcements. Nobody was present or asked to make any speeches or announcements for the handicapped, disabled or socially unacceptable people of the community of White Rock.

It was my opinion that the homosexual group was singled out and given special recognition.

I advise that the people of White Rock continue to respectfully send letters, emails and calls in opposition to the rainbow crosswalk and pier lighting. I also contend that the reversing of this is the responsibility of the present administration, and should not be handed over to the newly elected officials.

If the people of White Rock stand together and make their voices heard, then this rainbow event can be reversed in plenty of time before the change of administration.
