The speed limit along all of Marine Drive in White Rock is 30 km/h. However, during the late-night hours, Marine Drive strip becomes a race track.

I’m not sure how these race car drivers know that they are not going to get caught, as it appears, that is the case. The high-revving of motors, burning of tires and excessive speeding is only getting worse on Marine Drive.

The only way we can perhaps make some change to slow down these joy-riders is by installing speed bumps.

Wide-style speed humps are located on a few roads in the South Surrey areas and I can’t think of a better place for these to be installed than in White Rock on Marine Drive.

If the city is not going to close down the Marine Drive parking lots at a specific time each night, speed bumps should also be installed here, as these joy riders wait until the parking lot is almost empty, then meet up side-by-side for a short race. I live on Marine Drive and, unfortunately, have witnessed this a few times this past summer.

Both the very loud noises of groups of people partying in the parking lots during the late hours of the night and the speeding along Marine Drive are increasing quickly. As a White Rock taxpayer living on Marine Drive, I urge City Hall to put this issue as a top priority and at least consider speed bumps before summer 2023.
