Editor:

My elderly parents asked me to write a letter to our community because of their experience during our local White Rock Canada Day celebrations.

Their recent move to White Rock wasn’t easy; down-sizing and re-establishing themselves in a new community. After isolating over COVID, they were nervous about going back out into the public, but they decided to check out our Canada Day celebrations anyway.

Their mobility is a challenge, but they were able to find parking near the festivities. Thoughtfully, strangers shuffled around and made room for them to sit and enjoy a Calypso concert. Then, they went for fish and chips at the Ocean Beach. They were delighted with every aspect of the meal, and when it came time to pay, the waitress told them that their bill had been taken care of.

Thank you, whoever you are, for your generosity, love, and memory to cherish. This brings tears to my eyes every time I think about how you touched my parents, me, and my family, with your random act of kindness.

With gratitude, on behalf of Ruth and Jack.
