Once again, on Monday, Jan. 16, White Rock City Council voted unanimously to abandon multi-family residents’ solid waste collection.

Apparently Surrey can accommodate their multi-family residents but White Rock cannot.

There were no costs discussed to go to one provider as staff put none forward.

The city just bought five new garbage trucks for single family homes, but none of them have automatic tipping arms. Surrey’s contractors all have trucks with automatic tipping arms?

It’s like the City never really intended to do its fiduciary duty when it came to reversing its dystopian abandonment of 12,000 multi-family residents in 2015.

It was definitely a half-hearted effort to say the least.

Not surprising, since three of the original councillors who voted to abandon solid-waste collections for multi-family in a closed meeting in November 2014 (the first meeting they had as a council after inauguration) are back on council.

As with the first time in 2014, there has been zero public consultation.

If this is the type of response we are going to get from our new council, it’s going to be a long four years.
