Perhaps a solution to Surrey’s issue – and any other jurisdictions experiencing like challenges with overcrowded schools and swelling enrolments – could be that the provincial education department look at building modular-type buildings for new schools.

That way, those modular units could be moved to and from districts as needed. This would seem to make far more sense than building permanent buildings that in a few decades may once again become redundant as the population demographic in the area ages and the schools are no longer needed or can be reduced in size.

Modular-building techniques have improved remarkably in recent times and could be well adapted to school use. And the overall construction costs should be considerably reduced. Just a thought.
