Re: Clear any confusion, June 2 letters.

“I do not want to butt in… but please butt out”: I endorse this concern from a fellow resident in a letter to the editor.

In fact, I was planning to write to the Peace Arch News or call the council members regarding this issue.

This year, while walking on the beach and pier, we are passing many individuals who are smoking while walking or sitting on the benches.

I walk with my wife almost every day to enjoy this brick path. This White Rock promenade and pier is a jewel for the city and is for everyone’s enjoyment. As newcomers to the city, after spending most of our working life in Burlington, Ont., we enjoy this evening walk.

We request the visitors, with due respect, to pay attention to the no-smoking signs. Many do stop smoking, but there are others who don’t care.

We don’t want to become enforcers of the no-smoking law. We should not be put into this unpleasant situation.

We do need to improve and add more signs with some changes.

Furthermore, presence of community policing on the promenade – and awareness through PAN – always helps.

We also need the city council to ensure to maintain the promenade in excellent condition for our community, businesses and visitors.
