I used to be so proud of how Canadians kept their country so clean since coming from England in the 70s I was walking with my dog at the South Surrey Rec Centre soccer fields where they have recently put in a brand new man-made turf field on the south east corner of 20th and 148th.

I was absolutely disgusted and saddened to see the garbage left behind by one would assume the parents watching their children. In the wonderful stands that have been provided where watchers can comfortably sit even in bad weather and yet don’t have the courtesy to keep them clean.

There was all kinds of cups, bottles, trash, wrappers, plastics, left under the benches. Can we not be proud of such a great space and have the courtesy to take garbage home? However I will add there was not a garbage can in sight on what one would assume was a very expensive field. Why didn’t the City of Surrey plan a garbage can near these seats when hundreds of thousands of tax dollars were spent?
