Re: Plant owner rejects criticisms over pollution, April 15.
I am writing in response to the ongoing controversy regarding the new Ebco galvanizing plant off 24 Avenue in Campbell Heights.
I am an Ebco employee and have worked next door to the existing galvanizing facility in Richmond for the past 10 years.
It is located about 200 metres from the Fraser River, arguably the largest salmon-bearing stream in the province, and backs onto acres of working ALR farmland, as well as a state-of-the-art dairy facility.
There are hundreds of thriving, professionally managed beehives located on the May family farms on the lands behind Ebco.
I am unaware of any problems caused by Ebco on or in the river or on any of the farms.
Ebco has followed all the protocols, applied for and received all the permits and licenses required for its new location, and has generally behaved like the good corporate citizen that it is.
In response, late in the building process, it has been attacked and maligned with a campaign of misinformation, innuendo, intimidation and fear mongering, apparently by those who would have absolutely nothing built anywhere near anything.
If indeed Ebco is shown to be guilty of breaking the rules that it has promised to obey, let the authorities deal with it as they are supposed to.
To continue with this campaign of unwarranted harassment is an abuse of process and smacks of little more than bullying in order to advance someone’s own personal agenda.
This is a disgraceful way to treat an organization that has been an industry and technology leader in B.C. for over 60 years.
