LETTERS: Petition’s goal to support farmers, save farmland

If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s we should be more self-sufficient and not have to rely on our neighbours south – and even further south – of the border for produce that can be grown here.

I’m sure we’d all agree that local and provincially grown produce and fruits far out exceed in flavour and quality what is shipped from the south of us.

We need to support our farms and farmers and ensure that prime growing fields are saved and protected. While there is apparently a “need” (or is that greed?) for more warehouse space, do we really need it at the expense of valuable farmland? I think not.

I would urge everyone to sign the petition to help save this valuable piece of agricultural land before it’s too late. As the lyric goes, “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone, they paved paradise and put up a parking lot.” In this case cement warehouses!
