LETTERS: Serious concerns over White Rock development plans

Editor:

Recently I became aware of the document, Affordable Housing Strategy and Action Plan – Housing Advisory Committee – Focus Areas and Strategies dated March 29, 2022. Everyone in White Rock should pay attention. It appears that many candidates for mayor and council are supporting it.

While I can understand the need for development, I do have some serious concerns about the infrastructure to support this kind of development in White Rock.

More worrisome, though, is this new strategy noted in the document referenced above.

The 12 pillars of affordable housing outlined in this document basically waives any public input or hearings, and delegates the approval authority to the city staff.

This is atrocious. If we think there are too many high-density buildings approved now, you should just see what is included in this plan for the future.

I urge everyone to seek out a copy of the Affordable Housing Strategy and Action Plan – Housing Advisory Committee – Focus Areas and Strategies. It is a scary document. Find out the candidates’ views.

We need accountability from our politicians.

Please check this out before you vote on Saturday, Oct. 15. Otherwise, we may not even recognize the city of White Rock when the next election comes along.
