LETTERS: Switch to EV will happen in stages

I bought a Rav4 Hybrid as a ‘transition’ vehicle to a full EV. I am ready to convert from ‘transition’ to EV, but not at any cost.

The way I see it, there are several factors that will make my decision easier.

First, cost is always a factor so subsidies are helpful and in this case it is called an ‘incentive.’ The Canadian and B.C. governments have stepped up.

Another way to look at cost is gas-price savings. When the true cost of burning fossil fuels is implemented and polluting the atmosphere is no longer just an ‘externality’ that isn’t calculated in the price of gas then we will see this incentive jump up in relevance.

Next, the build-out of charging stations is a factor. I want to be able to drive up Highway 97 to PG and know I won’t get stuck, for example.

Last, I like my Rav4 Hybrid, size-wise, and when Toyota starts building these in large numbers and dealerships start selling them in large numbers, the cost will come down. That will make my decision to switch to full EV easier.

How about you?
