That was an excellent column written by Rachel Thexton in Peace Arch News Oct. 3, "What a play tent in a park revealed about homelessness."
Certainly, things are not always as the appear. If there is no one in the park, it could be that the homeless folks do not feel welcome in our public places.
Rachel says, “if we do not understand an issue we should learn more about it." I did just that today, I attended a PH2H meeting with three local candidates, who answered our questions about what they would do about homelessness if they were elected. The answers each one gave solidified my vote.
Peninsula Homeless to Housing is a compassionate group searching for solid alternatives to tents in parks for homeless people. But until there is a solution, let’s give the unfortunate folks kindness, compassion and a warm safe place to visit during the cold wet days of the year. I vote for a warming shelter.
