LETTERS: Time to ban gas-powered leaf blowers

Editor:

With everyone so concerned about the environment these days, I wonder why nobody has bothered to bring up the overuse of noisy polluting gas-powered leaf blowers. Every day – winter, spring, summer, fall – these machines are doing nothing but blowing dust, dirt, and noise around.

I have watched during pouring rain when they are doing nothing but blowing water and contributing to noise pollution. The building next door to us actually has a company that blows the entire paved parking lot of dust around once every week. Not to mention the fact that these practices are actually blowing away any speck of topsoil that once remained on the ground.

I can’t believe that a province claiming to be all about the health of the environment allows the constant practice of overuse of these noisy, polluting machines.
